Qibao Ancient Town

Today I went to check out Qibao Ancient town with my friends from class. I have wanted to see one of the canale towns for a while now and Qibao seemed like the easiest one to reach from Shanghai as it has it’s own stop on the metroline system and everything.  Qibao litteraly means 7 treasuers in chinese, and it is a quite nice little town. We checked out the old town area and the Qibao temple. The old town was very crowded, but still pretty nice – tons of old buildings, narrow streets with various goods for sale, nice canale, etc.  The temple was a little more quiet with only a few tourists. It was nice to walk in the quiet park surrounding it. We ran into the monks living in the temple as well – doing some sort of ritual walking from shrine to shrine and praying, kind of cool to see them in action. Great to see some more ancient chinese culture and get out of the city for a little while as well.
