Fushimi Inari

If you like Japanese temple gates – Fushimi Inari is the place to go. This temple area feature not 1, not 2, but 1001 temple gates, forming long temple gate corridors. There are also several temples in the area, dedicated  to foxes that are apparently living in this part of Kyoto. Rob and I overheard a guide telling her group that the monks couldn’t afford paying for all 10001 gates, and so rich people could sponsor a gate, getting their name on it. I think the corridors look even cooler with Kanji on the gates:

While Im curious how they came up with the idea for this area, I still think it looks awesome and it’s worth a visit 🙂
