An open letter to my girlfriend (Part 1)

Dearest Nikoline,

For a while now, you have asked me to contribute to your blog. Next week I will move in to our new appartment, where you will join me roughly six weeks later. This will give me the time to furnish, decorate and fix it up. To turn it in to a place where you can feel at home. Starting next week, I will try to keep you (and everyone else interested) up to date with the current progress of our new home and will try to include pictures.

This post will serve as a test run, but is also here because I would like to express how excited I am to start a life together with you. You are exactly what I have been looking for — that rare combination of smart, funny, together with great looks and a dazzling personality. It’s not just the generalities, either. There’s things about you that I can’t help but love and remember — the way we fit together and fill each other in while we’re travelling. You genuinely care about others and your smile can brighten an entire room full of people.

I love you.

p.s. I stumbled upon an old video I made before you left for China, before we even were together. Funny to look back:

Diverse China

This is a slideshow I made with pictures that I have taken while traveling in Greater China. Enjoy 🙂

Korean BBQ

Close to my university there is a place that offers a really cheap and tasty Korean BBQ all you can eat.  I have actually never tried this before, so it was pretty exciting for me to go there. There is basicly a little grill inside of your table that you put whatever you want from the buffet on. I mostly grilled tons of meat marinated in some spicy sauce, really loved it – very full now though, haha. Im going to miss all the different choices Shanghai provides – you can basicly find all sorts of food from around the world on all price levels, awesomeness.

Looking forward

I have been together with Rob for over half a year now, and we have decided to move in together this summer. As Rob already has a good job in the Netherlands and Im just about to finish my degree, the plan is to live there and not in Norway for now. It will be hard to be away from family and friends, but the Netherlands is a whole lot closer to Norway than China is – and I really want to take things with Rob to the next level. Rob has already found us a really nice apartment in Almere. The whole area is reclaimed land so it’s very new. Aparently their still building stuff everywhere, but we think living there will be great. Here are some pictures of the apartment:

Zhongshan Park

Summer is here, and today me and the girls went down to the park to enjoy it. Zhongshan park is pretty large, and as today was a  sunday it was really crowded as well. It impresses me how spontanious Chinese people can be. There were people dancing, flying kites, singing, playing in bands, drawing caligraphy or just relaxing on the grass. There was beautiful flowers everywhere, a little lake with boats, a cave and so on – really a nice place for a sunday walk.  We even found cherry blossoms! 🙂 Shanghai might not have much of a spring, but summer sure came fast.
