Colorful Building in Amsterdam

Colorful Building in Amsterdam

I don’t know what is inside this awesome building that I randomly saw in Amsterdam, but it I just love how it looks ๐Ÿ™‚

Gaypride Amsterdam

Last weekend my brother Ludvig came to visist, so we obviously wanted to show him Amsterdam. As it happened, we actually somehow ended up going the same day as the boat parade of the Amsterdam Gaypride, and I got to say it was pretty impressive. While Norway has become really good in terms of gay rights, I think the Netherlands still is just a few steps ahead. In Amsterdam, not only gay people join the gaypride – it has become a party for everybody, and it is all about being proud of who you are. Everyone was out in the streets celebrating, from the most obvious gays to whole families joining the festivities with their children. We ran into the actual parade several times while sightseeing and saw quite a few boats.

What actually impressed me the most was seeing the church of Amsterdam though, there was a huge gaypride banner hanging from the clock tower. That was the last place I expected to see it, and it really took me by surprise.

While I am straight myself and I only went to Amsterdam gaypride by chance, I have to say I was really impressed with how far this country have come in accepting gays and their rights – brilliant! ๐Ÿ™‚

JJ in Holland

After my parents and sister left, I had another visitor from Norway: Jeanette Josephine or just JJ ๐Ÿ™‚ (and she brought my favorite candy too – SCORE!). Her visit was a short one, but we did have a lot of fun. Rob and I live very close to this pink building in the picture, Klokhuis from dutch children television. Seeing this house up close was the absolute highlight of the trip for JJ, and she now wants to live there.ย  We also had a lot of fun in Amsterdam, where we managed to visit the Heineken museum, the sex museum and take a canale cruise all in one day.

We did want to stay in the city longer, but in the early evening it all of a sudden started to rain so heavily that we had to give up and go home. The picture probably says it all:

(JJ looked like this after being out in the rain for a grand total of 2 minutes)

I had a great time with JJ while she was here ๐Ÿ™‚ Tonight yet another visitor arrives – my brother Ludvig ๐Ÿ™‚

Awesome Amsterdam

This weekend Rob and I spent a day in Amsterdam, walking around, visisting museums and eating pancakes – thought I would share some of my best pictures here – enjoy ๐Ÿ™‚

Rob and I live about 15 minutes by car from this beautiful castle called Muiderslot – so of course we had to have a closer look. As it was saturday, they did a free falcon show. The show was really just one bird, but the falconeer still put up a good show, the bird was pretty cool and the kids seemed to love it.

Our ticket to the castle also included a guided tour of the inside. The tour was in Dutch, but they provided handouts in English, French and German with the same information on them so that was alright. I liked the inside of the castle as well, but personally I always get more impressed by the outside of buildings like this ๐Ÿ™‚ Muiderslot sure is worth a visit if you find yourself close to Amsterdam/Almere and have the time.
